Back in October, Motorola Project Ara was announced, a modular smartphone project, and now Motorola and 3D systems have announced a partnership on Project Ara.
Motorola and 3D systems have signed a multi year agreement where 3D systems will create a high speed 3D printing platform for the Motorola Project Ara.
“With Project Ara, we asked the question, ‘How do we bring the benefits of customization and an open hardware ecosystem to 6 billion people?’ That is our driving application. It requires technical advances in areas such as material strength and printing with conductive inks for antennas. And those advances must support production-level speeds and volumes, which is a natural partnership with 3D Systems,” said Regina Dugan, Senior Vice President and head of Motorola’s Advanced Technology & Projects group.
Project Ara is being run by the Advanced Technology and Project group at Motorola, and Project Ara is a free, open hardware platform that will be used for these modular smartphones.
It will be interesting to see how the project develops, as yet there are no details on when the first Project Ara will be available, as soon as we get some more information, we will let you guys know.
