Paul Wessiack has created a new bicycle magnetic safety pedal, aptly named the magped, which he has this week launched via Kickstarter with the aim of raising €20,000 before April 2nd, 2018. Watch the demonstration video below to learn more about the magnetic safety pedal designed for mountain bikes and electric bikes.
Sporting a patented magnet mechanism the magped pedals make it easy to attach and release your feet from the bikes pedal at any time, providing a much safer riding experience when compared to standard clicking pedals. The design now needs to be taken into full-scale manufacture and requires the help of Kickstarter backers.
A couple of different pedal varieties are available depending on your required pulling force, with magped capable of applying up to 15kg of pull force if required. “The force deploys primarily in a downward force, and therefore a quick and simple release with a sideways move of your foot is possible practically without effort. But even in more critical situations, the pulling force can be overcome without difficulties in a vertical direction as well” explains Paul.
For more information, specifications and all available pledges jump over to the official Kickstarter campaign page where the magped is now available to back with pledges starting from €53 or roughly £47 and worldwide shipping expected to take place during May 2018.
