Five of the worlds top publishers have formed an alliance to bring their magazines and newspapers onto digital devices through their own platform on a range of digital devices.
The alliance consists of Conde Nast, Hearst, Meredith, News Corp. and Time, and they hope to create a digital standard that will allow a wide range of devices to display their content on a standard format.
For the consumer, this digital initiative will provide access to an extraordinary selection of engaging content products, all customized for easy download on the device of their choice, including smartphones, e-readers and laptops.
Once purchased, this content will be ‘unlocked’ for consumers to enjoy anywhere, anytime, on any platform.
It will be interesting to see what this alliance of top publishers produces, and whether they can actually make a profit from it, I suspect if it is done right it could end up being a very profitable venture.
Will companies like Amazon, and Apple with their iTunes store be happy to sell their content?
