Today it has been confirmed that Lockheed Martin has purchased the famous Sikorsky helicopter manufacturer in a deal that is worth $9 billion or roughly £5.8 billion.
In a press release today Lockheed Martin explained the details of the and explained that due to following “recent shifts in market dynamics”. The company is also going to will explore options to achieve greater growth outside of the Corporation.
Marillyn Hewson, Lockheed Martin chairman, president and CEO explained in a statement :

I’m confident this acquisition will help us extend our core business into the growing areas of helicopter production and sustainment. Together, we’ll offer a strong portfolio of helicopter solutions to our global customers and accelerate the pace of innovation and new technology development.
