We previously heard that the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus would get a new fingerprint scanner which is said to be more accurate than the current one used in the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
The existing fingerprint scanner in Apple’s iPhones is made by TSMC and according to a recent report, TSMC will be making the fingerprint scanner for the new iPhone 6S and the 6S Plus.
TSMC will reportedly manufacture fingerprint sensors for use in the next-generation iPhone series at its 12-inch wafer fabs using 65nm process technology, according to industry sources.
For existing iPhone models, fingerprint sensors are being built using TSMC’s 0.18-micron process at the foundry’s 8-inch facilities, the sources noted.
As well as a new fingerprint scanner, the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus are expected to come with a number of other hardware updates over the current models.
Processing on the handsets is said to come from a new Apple A9 processor and we are also expecting device devices to get more RAM than the current models.
The cameras on both devices are said to get an update to a 12 megapixel camera, the current devices have an 8 megapixel camera, for storage we are expecting this to remain the same and the available options should include 16GB, 64GB and 128GB.
These new iPhone handsets will come with iOS 9 which is rumored to be unveiled at Apple’s World Wide Developer conference next month, although it wont launch until later in the year with the new iPhone models.
The iPhone 6S release date is rumored to be some time in September and we are expecting the price of the new iPhone models to be similar to the current pricing.
