Earlier today we heard that the International Trade Commission (ITC) had initially ruled that HTC has infringed on two of Apple’s patents relating to iOS devices, the initial ruling was done by an ITC judge and is still subject to a further ruling from a panel of six ITC judges.
As we mentioned earlier, the ruling is bad news for both HTC and Google’s Android OS, if the final ruling from the six ITC judges find in favour of Apple this could cause major problems for Android, and HTC has now announced that it will be launching an appeal with the ITC.
“We are highly confident we have a strong case for the ITC appeals process and are fully prepared to defend ourselves using all means possible,” said Grace Lei, General Counsel of HTC.”We strongly believe we have alternate solutions in place for the issues raised by Apple. We look forward to resolving this case, so we can continue creating the most innovative mobile experiences for consumers.”
HTC have also said that the have another work around, should the HTC’s final decision be that they have infringed on Apple’s patent’s, although we cant see how this is the case as the patent infringements relate to Google’s Android OS and not actual customizations that HTC has made to Android.
