As well as announcing the new HTC 8X, HTC also introduced another Windows Phone smartphone, the HTC 8S which also comes with Windows Phone 8 and features a 4 inch Super LCD touchscreen display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels.
The HTC 8S is powered by a dual-core Qualcomm S4 1GHz processor and it comes with 16GB of storage, and a microSD card slot, plus 512MB of RAM.
Other specifications on the HTC 8S include a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera for photos and video which features an LED flash and auto-focus and can record HD video in 720p.
The HTC 8S also features Beats Audio, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, and GPS. It will go on sale in November, but there are no details on pricing as yet.
Design and Build Quality
The HTC 8S boasts a sleek and modern design, with a polycarbonate body that feels sturdy and premium in hand. The device is available in a variety of vibrant colors, including Domino, Fiesta Red, Atlantic Blue, and High-Rise Gray, catering to different tastes and preferences. The 4-inch display is compact by today’s standards, making it easy to use with one hand and convenient to carry around. The Super LCD technology ensures that the screen is bright and clear, with good color reproduction and viewing angles.
Software and User Experience
Running on Windows Phone 8, the HTC 8S offers a unique user experience compared to Android and iOS devices. The operating system features a tile-based interface that is both intuitive and customizable. Users can pin their favorite apps, contacts, and widgets to the home screen for quick access. Windows Phone 8 also integrates seamlessly with Microsoft services such as Office, OneDrive, and Xbox Live, making it an excellent choice for users who are already invested in the Microsoft ecosystem.
The HTC 8S comes pre-loaded with several useful apps, including HTC’s own suite of applications like HTC Hub, which provides weather updates, news, and stock information. The device also supports a wide range of third-party apps available from the Windows Phone Store, ensuring that users have access to all the tools and entertainment options they need.
In terms of performance, the dual-core Qualcomm S4 processor and 512MB of RAM ensure that the HTC 8S runs smoothly for everyday tasks such as browsing the web, checking emails, and using social media. However, the limited RAM may pose challenges for more demanding applications and multitasking.
Battery Life and Connectivity
The HTC 8S is equipped with a 1700mAh battery, which provides decent battery life for a device of its size and specifications. Users can expect a full day of moderate use on a single charge, including activities such as web browsing, social media, and light gaming. The device also features power-saving modes to help extend battery life when needed.
In terms of connectivity, the HTC 8S covers all the essential bases. The inclusion of Bluetooth 2.1+EDR allows for easy pairing with wireless accessories such as headphones and speakers. The 802.11 b/g/n WiFi ensures reliable internet connectivity, while GPS support enables accurate location tracking for navigation and location-based services.
Overall, the HTC 8S is a well-rounded Windows Phone 8 device that offers a good balance of design, performance, and features. While it may not compete with the latest flagship smartphones in terms of raw power and cutting-edge technology, it remains a solid choice for users looking for a reliable and stylish device with the unique Windows Phone experience.
