At the currently running Google I/O conference, Google held a session entitled, “Voiding Your Warranty: Hacking Google Glass” and showed how their new Google Glass eyewear can be rooted and Ubuntu installed on to the device.
The screenshot below shows a laptop at the Google I/O conference running a terminal window in the top half and input from Google Glass on the bottom.
“Google Glass is ready for hacking! See what is possible with the hardware platform and how you can gain root access. Learn how to run your own experimental applications. Disclaimer: you’ll be stepping into uncharted and unsupported territory!”
Once rooted the Google Glass eyewear is then capable of running a choice of linux distros, and enables you to then SSH or VNC to access Ubuntu running on the eyewear. For more information on the new hacking Google Glass jump over to the Google I/O website for details.
