Back in May, we heard that Motorola were working on the Android Lollipop update for the first generation Moto X. This update has been highly anticipated by users who have been eager to experience the new features and improvements that Lollipop brings to the table.
Now, Motorola’s David Schuster has posted the company’s progress on the update on his Google+ page, and it looks like the update will land shortly.
I wanted to give a quick update on where we are with the Lollipop upgrades for the 2013 Moto X (1st Gen) devices.
We have started full soak testing in France and Germany retail this week with the expectation of full deployment next week if all goes well.
In addition, we have addressed an issue we found in a previous soak test and should start full soak testing in the US and Brazil for retail later this week. If all goes well, full deployment can happen the following week.
What is Soak Testing?
Soak testing is a critical phase in the software update process. It involves releasing the update to a small group of users to monitor its performance and identify any potential issues before a full-scale rollout. This helps ensure that the update is stable and free of major bugs. In the case of the Moto X, soak testing has been initiated in France and Germany, with plans to extend it to the US and Brazil. This phased approach allows Motorola to address any region-specific issues that may arise.
Features of Android Lollipop
Android Lollipop brings a host of new features and improvements to the Moto X. One of the most notable changes is the introduction of Material Design, which offers a more intuitive and visually appealing user interface. This design language emphasizes bold colors, fluid animations, and a clean, minimalist aesthetic.
Another significant improvement is the enhanced notification system. Lollipop allows users to manage notifications more effectively, with options to prioritize or mute them directly from the lock screen. This makes it easier to stay on top of important alerts without having to unlock the device.
Battery life is another area where Lollipop shines. The update includes a new battery saver mode that can extend the device’s battery life by up to 90 minutes. Additionally, users can now see an estimated time left before they need to charge their device, as well as an estimated time to full charge when plugged in.
Security has also been bolstered in Lollipop. The update introduces a feature called Smart Lock, which allows users to set trusted devices or locations where their phone will remain unlocked. This adds an extra layer of convenience without compromising security.
Performance improvements are also a key part of the Lollipop update. The new ART runtime, which replaces the older Dalvik runtime, offers faster app performance and smoother multitasking. This means that users can expect a more responsive and efficient experience on their Moto X.
As soon as we get some more details on the exact release date of the Android Lollipop update for the 1st generation Moto X, we will let you guys know. The anticipation is building, and it won’t be long before Moto X users can enjoy all the benefits that Lollipop has to offer.
