The social networking juggernaut Facebook has surpassed one billion downloads in the Google Play Store, making it the first non-Google app to achieve this milestone.
Facebook is the most popular social network on the internet, with dedicated apps for almost every single platform out in the wild.
The Google Play Store listing reveals that 1,000,000,000 – 5,000,000,000 downloads have been registered so it’s possible that the number is way up. And this is only the Google Play Store, there are other Android app stores in the market as well, so it should be a little more than a billion if we take them into account as well.
Google Play Services, Google Maps, Gmail and YouTube reached the one billion downloads milestone way before Facebook, but the social network did manage to surpass other Google apps which are not yes the one billion downloads club such as Hangouts, Chrome, etc.
Not too long ago, Facebook Messenger, the companies dedicated IM app for Facebook users, also crossed 500 million downloads on the Google Play Store. The way it’s popularity is growing, it wouldn’t be long before it enters the club too.
