Blizzard has announced details for their upcoming Diablo III patch 1.0.3, which is due to roll out to gamers later this month. Blizzard’s Wyatt Cheng has explained on Battle.net that the patch will bring changes to the Inferno difficulty setting within Diablo III, together with changes to rare item drops on mod bosses, and bonus monster damage when playing in a group, to name just a few.
Changes to Inferno Difficulty
Blizzard’s Cheng explains that monsters contained within Inferno Act 2, 3, and 4 will have their health and damage lowered in order to:
“smooth the difficulty ramp out a bit”-“If a monk or barbarian is geared well enough that they can use a heavily offensive build and murder everything in Act 1, they should be able to swap to a more defensive build and do okay in Act 2,”-“As they gear up they can begin adjusting back to becoming offensive in Act 2, at which point they can jump into Act 3 with a focus on defence, and so on.”
This adjustment aims to make the transition between acts more manageable for players, ensuring that the difficulty curve is not too steep. By allowing players to adopt a more defensive strategy in the higher acts, Blizzard hopes to provide a more balanced and enjoyable experience. This change is particularly beneficial for classes that rely heavily on gear and strategy, such as monks and barbarians.
Rare Item Drops and Group Play Adjustments
In addition to the changes in difficulty, patch 1.0.3 will also address the drop rates of rare items from mod bosses. Players have often expressed frustration with the inconsistency of rare item drops, which can make the game feel unrewarding at times. By tweaking these drop rates, Blizzard aims to provide a more satisfying loot experience, encouraging players to take on tougher challenges with the promise of better rewards.
Moreover, the patch will introduce changes to bonus monster damage when playing in a group. Currently, the game increases the damage output of monsters when more players join a game, which can sometimes make group play feel punishing rather than rewarding. The upcoming patch will adjust this mechanic to ensure that playing with friends is both fun and advantageous. This change is expected to foster a more cooperative and social gaming environment, as players will be more inclined to team up without the fear of facing disproportionately powerful enemies.
Additional Improvements and Future Updates
Blizzard has also hinted at other improvements that will come with patch 1.0.3. These include bug fixes, quality of life enhancements, and possibly new content to keep the game fresh and engaging. While specific details are yet to be revealed, players can look forward to a more polished and enjoyable Diablo III experience.
