Falling under the hallowed category of crazy Japanese gadgets only Japanese are likely to buy, pictured below is a pump powered bladder that works as a cooling cushion. There are just days when your bum is too hot seems to be the rationale behind this device, kind of like the reverse of heated seats.
The water cooled cushion works like an additional layer to any car seat and can presumably withstand the rigors of being sat on for an extended period. Not sure if it could replace a conked out airconditioner but if it keeps soaking wet armpits at bay (from the severe heat) then it must be good.
This latest from gadgeteers Thanko could find a generous following outside Japan, as traffic-prone urban areas often bask in scorching heat on slow days. Think places in mainland China and the U.S. West Coast for example.
If you’re wondering how it actually works, it’s real simple. The blue contraption stores the water and distributes it to the cushion. The problem is this gadget also sucks from your car’s battery as it connects via a jack stuck on the car lighter. Also, water containers tend to sweat and drip liquid—air conditioning does—so we’re not sure if this might end up soaking the upholstery on your ride.
It’s currently selling for a hefty $245.
