The new Key2 smartphone from BlackBerry will go on sale in Canada on the 6th of July. The handset will set you back CAD 829.99 unlocked. It is also available on contract with various mobile carriers.
Key Specifications and Features
As a reminder, the handset comes with a 4.5 inch display with a 1620 x 1080 resolution and a 3:2 aspect ratio. This unique aspect ratio makes it particularly suitable for productivity tasks, allowing users to see more content on the screen without excessive scrolling. The device features a Snapdragon 660 processor, which is known for its balance of performance and efficiency. Coupled with 6GB of RAM, the Key2 ensures smooth multitasking and performance even with demanding applications.
In terms of storage, the Key2 offers 64GB of internal storage, which should be ample for most users. However, for those who need more space, the device includes a microSD card slot that supports cards up to 256GB. This flexibility allows users to store a large amount of data, including photos, videos, and apps, without worrying about running out of space.
Camera Capabilities
The handset features front and rear cameras, catering to both selfie enthusiasts and those who love capturing moments. The front-facing camera is an 8 megapixel shooter, which is ideal for selfies and video calls. On the back, the Key2 is equipped with dual 12 megapixel cameras. The primary sensor has a wide-angle lens with an f/1.8 aperture, while the secondary sensor features a telephoto lens with an f/2.6 aperture. This dual-camera setup allows for enhanced photo quality, including better low-light performance and the ability to capture images with a bokeh effect.
The camera software includes various modes and features such as portrait mode, panorama, and a pro mode for manual adjustments. These features make the Key2 a versatile device for photography, capable of handling a wide range of shooting scenarios.
Operating System and Battery Life
The Key2 comes with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, providing users with a modern and secure operating system. BlackBerry has also included its suite of productivity and security apps, such as the BlackBerry Hub, DTEK security app, and the Privacy Shade. These additions make the Key2 not only a powerful smartphone but also a secure one, ideal for business users and those who prioritize privacy.
Battery life is another strong point of the Key2. The device is equipped with a 3050 mAh battery, which, combined with the efficient Snapdragon 660 processor, ensures long-lasting performance. BlackBerry claims that the Key2 can easily last a full day of heavy use, and with features like Quick Charge 3.0, users can quickly recharge their device when needed.
Additional Features
One of the standout features of the Key2 is its physical keyboard, a rarity in modern smartphones. The keyboard is backlit and includes a fingerprint sensor embedded in the spacebar for added security. The keys are also touch-sensitive, allowing for gestures such as scrolling and swiping, which can enhance productivity.
The Key2 also includes a customizable Speed Key, which allows users to quickly access their favorite apps and functions with a single press. This feature is particularly useful for power users who need to streamline their workflow.
The BlackBerry Key2 is a well-rounded smartphone that combines modern features with the classic BlackBerry keyboard. Its focus on productivity, security, and battery life makes it an excellent choice for business users and anyone who values these aspects in a smartphone.
