3D Printlife this week unveiled a new biodegradable ABS 3D printing filament called Enviro ABS, that provides an environmentally friendly alternative to many of the ABS 3D printing filaments currently on the market.
The Enviro ABSIs available in a range of different colours and has been under development for the past five years and uses a bio additive which is bonded to the ABS plastic. To provide both the printing characteristics of ABS but also be environmentally friendly.
CEO of 3D Printlife, Jeff Stevens explain more about the design of the new 3D printing filament :
The ABS is still ABS in every way and is petroleum-based. The bio additive is bonded to the ABS. Bacteria is attracted to the additive and once it begins to consume it it will then move on and consume the ABS and it will degrade. This process will not happen on your kitchen counter of course… you need a high level of bacteria such as the leachate in a landfill. If it does start to degrade on your kitchen counter you’ve got bigger problems than losing your prints.
The new Enviro ABS 3D printing filament is now available directly from the 3D Printlife website end is priced at $49.99 per reel.
