Earlier today we heard that Apple would be sending some of their new Apple Maps vehicles to the UK and Ireland, at the time Apple had yet to confirm the existence of these vehicles.
A new page on Apple’s website was spotted by the Guardian, although there were no details on the page about the project.
Apple has now updated the page on their maps website and confirmed the existence of these new Apple Maps vehicles.
Apple is driving vehicles around the world to collect data which will be used to improve Apple Maps. Some of this data will be published in future Apple Maps updates.
We are committed to protecting your privacy while collecting this data. For example, we will blur faces and license plates on collected images prior to publication. If you have comments or questions about this process, please contact us.
You can see the Apple Maps Vehicles website at the link below, it confirms which areas in the UK, Ireland and the US that Apple are testing out these new mapping vehicles.
