The recent rumor that Apple is buying Intel’s smartphone modem business has now been confirmed by Apple. The company has revealed that the deal is worth $1 billion and around 2,200 Intel employees will join Apple.
Apple will also acquire intellectual property, equipment and leases, when acquired Apple will own over 17,000 patents related to wireless technology.
This will give Apple a massive boost to producing its own 5G modems, it will also allow Apple to move away from Qualcomm. Apple and Qualcomm recently settled a patent in a $4.5 billion deal.

They, together with our significant acquisition of innovative IP, will help expedite our development on future products and allow Apple to further differentiate moving forward.”
