Apple launched their new AirPods 2 last month and now, according to a recent report, the Apple AirPods 3 may launch before the end of 2019.
According to respected Apple analyst Ming Chi Kuo, Apple is working on two new versions of their AirPods. One will launch before the end of 2019, and the other in early 2020.
We expect Apple will likely launch two new AirPods models in 4Q19 at the earliest. One is the all-new form factor design at a higher price. The other’s outlook and price will be the same as the current model’s. A common internal design factor of these two new AirPods will be to abandon the current “SMT+RFPCB” design and change to adopt the SiP design instead for improving assembly yield rates, saving internal space and reducing cost.
New Design and Features
One of these new AirPods is said to come with a new design, which we suspect will be the 2020 model. While it is not clear yet what new features the Apple AirPods 3 will come with, there are several speculations and expectations from the tech community.
The new design could potentially include a more ergonomic fit, improved water resistance, and possibly even new color options. Additionally, there is speculation that the AirPods 3 might feature advanced health monitoring capabilities, such as heart rate tracking, which would align with Apple’s ongoing focus on health and fitness.
Technological Advancements
The shift from the current “SMT+RFPCB” design to the SiP (System-in-Package) design is a significant technological advancement. This change is expected to improve assembly yield rates, save internal space, and reduce costs. The SiP design allows for more components to be packed into a smaller space, which could lead to better performance and potentially longer battery life.
Moreover, the new AirPods might also feature improved sound quality, thanks to advancements in audio technology. Enhanced noise cancellation and better bass response are among the features that users are hoping for. The integration of Apple’s H1 chip, which was introduced with the AirPods 2, is likely to continue, providing seamless connectivity and hands-free “Hey Siri” functionality.
Market Expectations and Competition
The launch of the new AirPods models comes at a time when the market for wireless earbuds is becoming increasingly competitive. Companies like Samsung, Google, and Sony have all released their own versions of wireless earbuds, each with unique features and competitive pricing.
Apple’s strategy of releasing two different models could be a way to cater to different segments of the market. The higher-priced model with a new form factor might appeal to tech enthusiasts and early adopters, while the model with the same outlook and price as the current AirPods could attract budget-conscious consumers.
The upcoming launch of the Apple AirPods 3 and the other new model in early 2020 is highly anticipated. With potential new designs, advanced features, and technological improvements, Apple aims to maintain its leadership in the wireless earbuds market. As always, the actual features and performance of these new models will be closely watched by both consumers and industry experts.
