The next major release of Google’s Android OS will be called , and this will be Android 5.0, and now it would appear that we have some details on what the next version after Android Jelly Bean will be called.
According to the guys over at The Verge, After Android Jelly Bean comes Android Key Lime Pie, which we presume will be Android 6.0, and we can expect it to be release next year if Google continues with their one major release a year schedule.
The Verge has said that the information comes from the same source that tipped them off to the Android Jelly Bean name, so we suspect Android 6.0 will end up being called Key Lime Pie, we were also trying to think of other desserts that begin with K, and the Key Lime Pie seems like the most obvious one.
Android’s Dessert-Themed Naming Tradition
Google has a long-standing tradition of naming its Android operating system versions after desserts, following an alphabetical order. This tradition started with Android 1.5 Cupcake and has continued through versions like Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Jelly Bean. Each name not only adds a fun twist to the release but also makes it easier for users to remember the versions. The choice of Key Lime Pie for Android 6.0 fits perfectly into this sweet-themed nomenclature.
What to Expect from Android Key Lime Pie
While specific features of Android Key Lime Pie are still under wraps, we can speculate based on the trends and advancements seen in previous versions. Android 6.0 is expected to bring significant improvements in performance, user interface, and battery life. Google has been focusing on making Android more user-friendly and efficient, and Key Lime Pie is likely to continue this trend.
One area where we might see substantial changes is in the integration of Google services. With the increasing importance of cloud computing, Android Key Lime Pie could offer deeper integration with Google Drive, Google Photos, and other cloud-based services. This would make it easier for users to sync their data across multiple devices seamlessly.
Another potential area of improvement is security. With each new release, Google has been enhancing the security features of Android to protect users from malware and other threats. Key Lime Pie could introduce more robust security measures, such as improved encryption and better app permissions management.
We can expect Android 6.0 Key Lime Pie some time in 2013, that is assuming that Google releases Android Jelly Bean before the end of this year.
