InnovoDesign an Etsy shop is selling a 3D printed metal keyring that is equipped with radioactive Tritium and will provide a useful glow for up to 20 years. Allowing you to easily see where you have left your keychain or similar belongings in the dark.
The small pocket sized Tritium Flashlight is also equipped with a handy bottle opener and a small pry tool allowing it to provide you with multifunctional features all for just $64.
The flashlights are 3D printed via Shapeways after which the seller embedded a piece of the non removable tritium isotope, that is enclosed within a 3×22.5mm vial constructed from resin. The vial is carefully mounted within the stainless steel body to make sure that it is not easily broken or leaks. Its creator explains a little more about the unique glowing material:
“Tritium (symbol T or 3H, also known as hydrogen-3) is a radioactive isotope of hydrogen and one of the most valuable substances on earth, with a market price of 30.000$ per gram.
The Tritium vials used are light sources of gaseous tritium isotope, hermetically sealed in glass.
This radioactive tritium gas, glows completely on its own in a very safe manner, without needing to be ‘charged’ with light as required by most phosphorescent glow in the dark products.
The glow will be subtle and visible in low-light conditions; the darker the better. It will not be visible in daylight or well-lit areas. The light produced is literally ”on” at all times, it’s intensity isn’t reduced after a few hours and will last non-stop for about 20 years. This is truly a ”nuclear powered” gadget!”
