Anyone looking for a boat which fold up into a flat pack, might be interested in the new Oru Kayak fold up canoe which is now starting its journey over on the Kickstarter website, and has already blasted it way past the $80,000 need to get the project up and running.
The Oru Kayak folds flat in to a pack that can be carried, and then unfolded to create the 12 foot canoe when required. Watch the video after the jump to learn more about the Oru Kayak project and see it in action.
Each Oru Kayak is engineered of a single sheet of double-layered plastic, the single seam is sealed with a watertight rubber gasket, and Solid ribs are used to provide strength and rigidity.
“The Oru Kayak is an incredible, high-performance boat that folds out of a compact case. Inspired by origami, this innovative kayak transform quickly, easily— and almost magically. Stash it in a trunk, check it on a plane, stow it aboard a sailboat, or hike it in to remote waters. It’s full size (12′ long), super light (25 lbs), and quick to assemble (5 min). On the water it’s fast, stable, and handles incredibly well.”
The Oru Kayak project is currently over on the Kickstarter website looking to raise enough pledges to make the jump from concept to production. So if you think Oru Kayak is something you could benefit from, visit the Kickstarter website now to make a pledge and help Oru Kayak become a reality.
