The guys over at Xmi decided to send us some of their portable speakers to test out, we received two different models, the X-Mini II Capsule and the X-mini Max II.
First up is the X-Mini Max II speakers, which come in a choice of white and black, and when you open the box it comes as a single unit which can be split in half so you have two speakers.
The speakers connect to your iPod or Mp3 player via the 3.5mm audio jack and they also feature a USB connection that is used to charge the built in batteries.
The sound is great for such a small speaker, with a decent amount of bass, and the cool thing about these speakers is that they can be daisy chanied together so you could have three or four sets all connected to the same MP3 player.
I really like the design of the X-mini Max II portable speakers, and it is really cool the way the clip together with magnets, which makes them really portable and easy to carry around with you when you are travelling.
The X-mini Max II measures 65.8mm by 53.4mm and weigh in at just 178g, they feature two 2.5W speakers, and I was quite surprised how loud they were.
The battery will last for up to twelve hours and it takes about two and a half hours to charge the battery via USB, overall these are great little speakers, and ideal for travelling I would definitely recommend them.
Next up is the smaller X-mini II capsule speaker, pictured above, this one is slightly smaller than X-mini Max II, it features an interesting design, where you twist the speaker to expand it.
This definitely improves the sound, and gives it more bass, it features a built in 3.5mm audio lead which can be plugged directly into your iPod or MP3 player, and this makes it a bit more portable than the other model.
The sound quality is good, although you dont get as much bass as the X-mini Max II, but the X-mini II capsule still does a good job, and it is small enough to fit in your pocket.
Both of these speakers are great for portable speakers, and I was surprised by how good the sound quality actually was, if you are looking for the best sound out of the two I would go for the X-mini Max II.
If you are looking for the most portable one, which still has good sound then I would recommend the X-mini II capsule.
If you want a set the Xmi X-mini portable speakers are available from XMI, plus a number of online retailers, we will be giving some of these cool speakers away in our Christmas Geeky Gadgets giveaway.
