Update: 29th April 2010
It looks like the email that was sent to customers was sent out in error, and Vodafone have confirmed that customers who pre-0ordered the Nexus One will still receive it on the 30th April, see the comment below left by one of the guys from Vodafone.
The Vodafone version of the Nexus One Google Android Smartphone is due to go on sale in the UK on Friday the 30th April 2010. It has been available to pre-order in the UK for a couple of days.
Now it seems like the Nexus One might be quite popular in the UK, as Vodafone replied to a customer who tried to pre-order a Nexus One, telling them that due to high demand the Nexus One was actually out of stock.
Thank you for placing your order, reference number [redacted]. Unfortunately we have suffered a surprisingly high demand for the Nexus One From Google, which means that it is unexpectedly out of stock. Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused. We hope to have further stock available within 7-10 working days and will contact you again once your order has been dispatched.”
Either Vodafone underestimated the demand for the Nexus One for pre-order customers, or they have had so many pre-orders that the stock they ordered was sold very quickly.
We suspect that they underestimated the Demand for the Nexus One, and probably did not think it was going to be as popular considering that the HTC desire is also available which is basically the same phone with more functions.
It isn’t clear whether the low stock of the Nexus One will effect just pre-order customers or if it will also effect customers who turn up at Vodafone stores on Friday looking to get their hands on the Google Phone. Have a look and our article on Android vs iPhone to see which smartphone and mobile platform is best for you.
