I have wondered why that most computers I see only have two USB 3.0 ports. I didn’t think to consider the reason was because the USB 3.0 host controllers inside the machines only supported a pair of USB 3.0 ports.
VIA Labs announced today that it would be showing off a new USB 3.0 host controller at Computex next month that supports four USB 3.0 ports. The new controller has the bandwidth needed to allow all four ports to be used at once.
The VL800 USB 3.0 host controller is also fully backwards compatible with other older USB specifications. The controller also supports USB Battery Charging Specifications for charging phones, cameras, and other USB devices.
