The innovative idea behind this concept car allows two motorcycles, drive-by-wire bikes, to bind together to create a car. The concept from designer Ramesh Gound developed during a diploma project at the National Institute of Design that was sponsored by Renault design.
Ground’s idea was inspired by a “buy 1 get 1 free” shopping attitude that he observed in the market around the Ahmedabad area of India
The concept has been designed to take on the congestion in cities such as Mumbai. The main hood is made from D30 and is cleverly stowed away in the bike frame when the two motorcycles are not linked together as a car.
Design and Functionality
The design of this concept car is not only innovative but also highly functional. The two motorcycles can operate independently, providing flexibility for the users. When combined, they form a compact car that can navigate through the congested streets of urban areas. This dual functionality makes it an ideal solution for cities with heavy traffic, offering both the convenience of a motorcycle and the safety and comfort of a car.
The use of D30 material for the main hood is particularly noteworthy. D30 is known for its impact protection properties, which means that the hood is not only lightweight but also provides a significant level of safety. This material choice reflects the thoughtful design considerations that went into the project, ensuring that the vehicle is both practical and safe for everyday use.
Potential Impact and Future Applications
The potential impact of this concept car is substantial. In cities like Mumbai, where traffic congestion is a daily challenge, a vehicle that can switch between being a motorcycle and a car could revolutionize urban transportation. It offers a versatile solution that can adapt to different driving conditions and user needs, potentially reducing the number of vehicles on the road and easing traffic congestion.
Moreover, the concept could inspire future innovations in the automotive industry. The idea of modular vehicles that can change their form and function could lead to new types of transportation solutions that are more adaptable and efficient. For instance, similar concepts could be developed for delivery services, where the ability to switch between different modes of transportation could optimize delivery routes and reduce costs.
In addition to its practical applications, the concept car also highlights the importance of creative thinking and innovation in addressing urban challenges. By reimagining what a vehicle can be, designers like Ramesh Gound are pushing the boundaries of traditional automotive design and opening up new possibilities for the future of transportation.
Overall, this concept car represents a significant step forward in the quest for more efficient and adaptable urban transportation solutions. Its innovative design, combined with its potential to reduce traffic congestion and inspire future innovations, makes it a noteworthy development in the field of automotive design.
