Twitter is currently receiving around 24 billion search requests at a month. A 33% increase in requests since April of this year.
To put this in perspective its twice as many requests as Bing & Yahoo search engines combined. Recently Comscore has reported that Bing was having around 4.1 billion monthly queries worldwide while Yahoo was handling 9.4 billion in December.
Twitter’s 800 million requests a day will definitely help its advertising strategy and Twitters new “earlybird” deals feed. To start Twitter will be working with large international advertisers but hopes to offer locally targeted offers at a later date.
TechCrunch have estimates that Twitter already has $160 million in venture capital and will be experimenting with raising revenue by selling promoted tweets and listings on trending topics, together with providing access to its data to companies such as Microsoft and Google.
