We told you about the TomTom Navigation iPhone App a while back. Well, it looks like it is now available from the US iTunes store for $99.99.
The TomTom iPhone App turns your iPhone into a fully-fledged turn-by-turn Sat Nav device. It features both 2D and 3D maps, and to be honest, $99.99 does seem expensive considering there are alternatives on the market, like CoPilot Live, which only costs $34.99.
Features and Functionality
The TomTom iPhone App offers a range of features designed to enhance your navigation experience. It includes voice-guided turn-by-turn directions, which can be incredibly useful when driving in unfamiliar areas. The app also provides real-time traffic updates, helping you avoid congestion and find the fastest route to your destination. Additionally, it offers lane guidance, which is particularly helpful on complex highway interchanges.
Another notable feature is the ability to search for points of interest (POIs) along your route. This can include gas stations, restaurants, and hotels, making it easier to plan stops during long trips. The app also supports offline maps, so you can navigate even when you don’t have a cellular signal.
Comparing Alternatives
While the TomTom iPhone App is packed with features, its $99.99 price tag may be a deterrent for some users. Alternatives like CoPilot Live offer similar functionality at a fraction of the cost. CoPilot Live, for instance, is available for just $34.99 and includes many of the same features, such as turn-by-turn navigation, offline maps, and POI search.
Another alternative is Google Maps, which is free and comes pre-installed on most smartphones. While it may not offer all the advanced features of the TomTom app, it provides reliable navigation and real-time traffic updates. Waze is another free option that offers community-driven traffic updates and alerts, making it a popular choice for many drivers.
On top of that, if you want to use the TomTom iPhone App like a regular Sat Nav, you will also have to buy the TomTom car adapter kit. The pricing on this hasn’t been revealed yet, but it is probably going to cost around $100 or more. This additional cost could make the overall investment quite steep compared to other options.
