TomTom has this week rolled out a new update for their TomTom iOS application, which brings with it a number of new features such as refreshed and updated maps, improved advanced planning, together with other improvements.
TomTom explains that on average roads change by around 15 percent on a yearly basis and the new updates help to make sure you don’t get lost trying to find your way.
Advanced Planning Features
Within the latest TomTom version 1.14 iOS app, TomTom has added Advanced Planning that enables you to change any part of your pre-planned route without having to start from the beginning. This means you can adjust your starting point, destination, or departure time and check your drive/arrival time to find your preferred route. This feature is particularly useful for those who need to make last-minute changes to their travel plans due to unforeseen circumstances such as traffic jams or road closures.
For example, if you initially planned to leave at 8 AM but now need to leave at 9 AM, the app will automatically recalculate the best route for you, taking into account the new departure time. This ensures that you always have the most efficient route at your fingertips, saving you both time and fuel.
Backup and Restore Settings
Another useful addition rolled out in the update includes a neat feature allowing you to backup your settings with the TomTom iOS app. To enable the new feature, make sure your iCloud account is enabled. Then, simply open and close the app to make a backup of your settings, and you’re done. This feature ensures that all your preferences, saved locations, and routes are safely stored in the cloud.
In case you ever need to reinstall the app or switch to a new device, you can easily restore your settings without having to manually reconfigure everything. This is a significant time-saver and adds an extra layer of security for your personalized settings.
Refreshed and Updated Maps
The update also brings refreshed and updated maps, which are crucial for accurate navigation. TomTom explains that roads change by around 15 percent on a yearly basis. This includes new roads being built, existing roads being closed or rerouted, and changes in traffic patterns. The updated maps ensure that you have the most current information, reducing the chances of getting lost or encountering unexpected detours.
For instance, if a new highway has been constructed in your area, the updated maps will include this new route, allowing you to take advantage of faster travel times. Similarly, if a road has been closed for construction, the app will automatically reroute you to avoid delays.
Additional Improvements
In addition to the major features mentioned above, the update also includes several other improvements aimed at enhancing the overall user experience. These may include bug fixes, performance enhancements, and minor tweaks to the user interface. While these changes may not be as noticeable as the new features, they contribute to a smoother and more reliable app experience.
For example, the app may now load faster, respond more quickly to user inputs, and offer a more intuitive interface. These improvements make the app more enjoyable to use and ensure that it remains a top choice for iOS users seeking reliable navigation solutions.
You can download the latest version for free if you already own the app, or purchase a copy for $60 if you are a new user. The investment is well worth it for the peace of mind and convenience that the app provides.
