Thanko makes some truly bizarre USB accessories that plug into the USB port on your notebook or laptop computer. The company is well-known for making all sorts of accessories that heat up to help keep you warm during the winter, but the company also makes an assortment of accessories designed to keep you cool. One of those accessories is the company’s new USB neck cooler.
The left and right sides that wrap around the front of the neck are covered with a heat conducting metal that is used in conjunction with a pair of small internal fans. That metal is designed to pick up the heat from your neck and body and the fans slurp the heat out the back of the neck device. This may sound like a very bizarre idea, but trust me, if you live in a hot environment you’re willing to try just about anything to stay cool outdoors.
Power for the device comes from a pair of included rechargeable AAA batteries that charge via the USB port on your computer. Thanko claims that as long as the ambient air temperature outside is below your body temperature the neck cooler will keep you feeling cool and more refreshed for up to 12 hours per charge. That caveat about the outside temperature having to be lower than your body temperature means that this isn’t the device for a Texas summer. The device is available for $20.
