On the weekend hackers managed to take over the official Tesla Twitter account and also the Twitter account of Tesla CEO.
As well as the official Tesla Twitter accounts the company’s website was hacked, it started with a tweet on the official Twitter account of the company.
The Tweet was offering people a free Tesla car and the accounts name was changed to #RIPPRGANG, and the number that was given out for the free car was owned by @rootworx who posted the following tweet.
Currently receiving about 5 phone calls a minute about a “free Tesla”. A free car is NOT being offered, please stop calling.

Again, There is no free car, I did not hack Elon Musk or Tesla’s Twitter account. A Finnish child is having fun at your (and my) expense.

As yet there is no official statement from Tesla Motors on exactly what happened, it looks like the Tesla website has now been returned to normal.
