Suunto has this week unveiled their newly updated and second generation Suunto Ambit2 GPS watches, in the form of the Suunto Ambit2 S and Suunto Ambit2.
The new range of Suunto Ambit2 GPS watches offer both athletes and explorers features to help them in their tasks. The new Suunto Ambit2 S has been designed to be lighter, now includes options for training, but has lost a few of the outdoor functions from the original Ambit, losing the barometer, barometric altimeter and thermometer.
Enhanced Features for Athletes
The Suunto Ambit2 S is also fitted with route navigation, route planning and “Find back” support features to help users with their training program. These features are particularly beneficial for runners, cyclists, and swimmers who need precise tracking and navigation capabilities. The route navigation allows athletes to pre-plan their training routes and follow them accurately, ensuring they stay on course. The “Find back” feature is a lifesaver for those who venture into unfamiliar territories, providing a reliable way to return to the starting point.
Additionally, the Ambit2 S supports multi-sport activities, making it an ideal companion for triathletes. It can seamlessly switch between different sports modes, such as running, cycling, and swimming, without losing track of the overall performance metrics. This versatility ensures that athletes can monitor their progress across various disciplines, helping them to improve their overall fitness and performance.
Outdoor Exploration with Suunto Ambit2
While the Ambit2 S focuses on training and multi-sport activities, the Suunto Ambit2 combines all of these features with the outdoor focus of the original Ambit. It includes route navigation, “Find back,” barometric information, altimeter, and temperature sensors. These additional features make the Ambit2 an excellent choice for outdoor enthusiasts, hikers, and mountaineers who require more comprehensive environmental data.
The barometric altimeter provides accurate altitude readings, which are crucial for activities like hiking and climbing. The barometer helps in predicting weather changes, giving users a heads-up on potential storms or adverse weather conditions. The temperature sensor adds another layer of environmental awareness, allowing users to monitor the ambient temperature during their adventures.
Moreover, the Ambit2’s robust build and durability make it suitable for harsh outdoor conditions. It is designed to withstand extreme temperatures, shocks, and water exposure, ensuring it remains functional in the most challenging environments. This durability, combined with its advanced features, makes the Ambit2 a reliable tool for serious adventurers.
The Suunto Ambit2 and Ambit2 S will arrive in stores during May and the Ambit2 S will be priced from $400 to $450, depending on the finish, and the Ambit2 price ranges from $500 to $650, again depending on the required finish.
