We had some teasing about the coming Subaru WRX STI, and the car has finally been seen in full at the Detroit auto show. Subaru crammed a turbo with a larger compressor and turbine that makes 1.8 pounds more boot under the hood. That gives the car 341hp, 31 more than the standard STI.
Subaru also grafted on a new intact duct for the engine, induction box with a conical air filter and a silicone turbo inlet duct. The steering wheel has paddles that spray water on the intercooler to reduce air temperatures.
Gears are changed via a 6-speed manual transmission. The engine makes 31 more hp, but torque stays the same at 290 lb-ft. The front and rear track are 0.6-inches wider, and the car has extra aero tidbits. It also rolls on gold forged BBS wheels hiding Brembo brakes. Subaru plans to make about 200 units in blue with gray wheels are white with gold, no word on price yet.
