Tobii has this week unveiled a new eye tracking games controller they have developed in the form of the SteelSeries eye-tracking peripheral using Tobii EyeX technology which could be set to transform the world of gaming controllers.
The SteelSeries eye-tracking peripheral equipped with Tobii EyeX technology adds a next generation controller to the world of gaming and makes shooting an opponent as easy as simply looking at them, rather than trying to position your cursor for a headshot. Watch the video after the jump to learn more about the Steelseries controller project.
The Tobii EyeX is still in development and currently does’t have a final name as yet for a consumer launch but Tobii the Swedish manufacturer has commercialised a number of eye-tracking systems over the last few years, including the eye tracking technology demonstrated in Hyundai’s HCD-14 concept car.
“Tobii and SteelSeries team up to bring gamers the world’s first eye tracking gaming gear. Be first in creating the future of gaming with eye tracking.
Eye tracking increases the bandwidth between the gamer and the game, allowing gamers to do more at the same time, which also creates a richer gaming experience. Add an extra aiming mechanism, remove the interruption of the game play by creating easier access to menus and commands, or make games with complex controls easier to learn.”
A development kit for the new SteelSeries eye-tracking peripheral equipped with Tobii EyeX technology is now available to purchase for $195 and is currently available for limited-time special price $95/€75 when you use the promo code CES2014.
