The updates for the Xperia Z5, Z5 Compact, and Z5 Premium, as well as the Z4 Tablet and Z3+, should be released as an over-the-air update from the 7th of March.
What to Expect from the Android Marshmallow Update
Android Marshmallow, also known as Android 6.0, brings a host of new features and improvements over its predecessor, Android Lollipop. Users can look forward to enhanced app permissions, which give them more control over what information apps can access. This means you can now approve or deny permissions individually, rather than granting all permissions at once during installation.
Another significant feature is Doze Mode, which helps to extend battery life by putting the device into a deep sleep state when it is not in use. This can be particularly beneficial for users of the Xperia Z5 Premium, which boasts a 4K display that can be quite power-hungry.
Enhanced User Experience and Performance
The update also includes Google Now on Tap, a feature that provides contextual information based on the content currently displayed on your screen. For instance, if you’re reading an article about a movie, you can long-press the home button to get information about the movie, its cast, and even showtimes.
Additionally, the update brings improvements to the overall performance and stability of the devices. Users can expect faster app launches, smoother multitasking, and a more responsive user interface. The Xperia Z4 Tablet, known for its high-resolution display and powerful performance, will particularly benefit from these enhancements, making it an even more formidable device for both work and play.
Sony has also been known to include some of its own tweaks and enhancements in its updates. While the company has not detailed any specific changes for this update, users can expect some Sony-specific improvements that will further enhance the user experience.
How to Prepare for the Update
Before the update rolls out, it’s a good idea to prepare your device to ensure a smooth transition. Here are some steps you can take:
1. Backup Your Data: While the update process is generally safe, it’s always a good idea to back up your important data. You can use Sony’s PC Companion software or any other backup method you prefer.
2. Charge Your Device: Ensure your device is fully charged or at least has more than 50% battery life. This will prevent any interruptions during the update process.
3. Free Up Space: Make sure you have enough storage space available for the update. You can delete unnecessary files or move them to an external storage device.
4. Stable Internet Connection: Ensure you have a stable Wi-Fi connection to download the update without any interruptions.
Once the update is available, you will receive a notification on your device. Simply follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the update.
