As rumoured yesterday Sony has today taken the wraps off their new Sony Smartwatch 2 at the Mobile Asia Expo 2013, in Shanghai, revealing a new water resistant second screen for use with Android devices.
The Sony Smartwatch 2 has been designed to be Android powered and is fitted with a 1.6-inch touch display offering a resolution of 220 x 176 pixels, all encased in an aluminium body..
The Sony Smartwatch 2 features support for NFC and Bluetooth 4.0 and has been designed to provide users with a multi-functional watch, notifier, Android app interface and phone remote control, all-in-one.
Sony has designed their new Sony Smartwatch 2 to be customisable using applications that can be installed on to the Smartwatch 2 to suit your needs. A few of the features offered by the new Sony Smartwatch 2 include the ability to handle your calls by a simple touch of your wrist, take a photo remotely from your SmartWatch, using a smart camera app, control presentations remotely using Presentation Pal.
As well as being able to install mapping apps on to the Sony Smartwatch 2 that will provide a quick reference route on your wrist, together with being able to downloaded e-mails when not connected to your phone and adjust the tracks and volume on your music player. Sony explains a little more:
“It’s easy and convenient to access notifications from your wrist such as messages, calls, email, Facebook/Twitter, Calendar, or use it as a remote for your Walkman or other digital media player. This wireless accessory is ideal for pairing with large-screen devices, such as the newly announced Xperia Z Ultra, in situations which call for discrete usage.
The Sony SmartWatch 2 introduces new features as a natural successor to the current Sony SmartWatch such as NFC connectivity for one-touch pairing, stunning premium design and a range of technologies including higher resolution for sharper viewing, better visibility even in sunlight, longer battery stamina, more intuitive interface, standalone watch functionality and a wide range of pre-installed and recommended apps.”
The Sony Smartwatch 2 will be arriving in September 2013 but no prices have been released as yet. But we will keep you updated as always
