SoftBank the creators of the Pepper Robot that was unveiled last ear and will soon go on sale in Japan, has announced $236 million in funding to hep develop the Pepper robot further and expand in to markets around the world.
The Pepper Robot is priced at $9,000 and the company managed to sell 300 in just one minute as it was made available online for developers who has to pay $1,660 up front plus £206 per month for the next few years.
“Peppers loves to talk with humans, he’s very curious about us! As you continue to interact with him Pepper will recognize you and learn new things about your tastes. Capable of both adaptation and self-improvement, he will soon be able to search for new applications to surprise and entertain you!”
SoftBank wrote in a statement today : “SoftBank, Alibaba and Foxconn will build a structure to bring Pepper and other robotics businesses to global markets, and cooperate with the aim of spreading and developing the robotics industry on a worldwide scale,”
SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son explains : “Robotics will become a critical field that catalyzes technological breakthroughs in numerous sectors such as healthcare, public services, research and at home.
