After 12 years as a concept, the new SeaOrbiter research vessel designed by French architect Jacques Rougerie. Now has the required funding and all the technical issues have been resolved to make the concept vessel a reality. The futuristic SeaOrbiter research vessel is part ship and part submarine, with 50% of the vessel below the water line. Construction of the $43 million research vessel will commence soon, and has enlisted the support of the European Space Agency.
Together with other industrial organisations, to help develop the latest technology required for the ambitious project and its onboard systems. Ariel Fuchs, education and media director of the SeaOrbiter project explains:
“All technical issues are resolved, all the modeling is done,”-“We gathered institutional and industrial support five or six years ago and it’s been a real institutional and financial project for the last two years.”
