Previous rumors had suggested that Samsung would supply the OLED panels for Apple’s iPhone in 2018. However, according to a recent report, Samsung will actually supply the displays for next year’s iPhone.
Apple is expected to release three iPhone models in 2017. One model will come with an OLED display, while the other two will feature LCD displays.
Samsung Display will become the exclusive supplier of AMOLED panels for use in Apple’s new iPhone devices to be launched in 2017 and can supply 20 million units in maximum a month, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.
Apple will launch 4.7-, 5.5- and 5.8-inch new iPhone models in the second half of 2017, with TFT-LCD panels to be used in the former two models and AMOLED for the 5.8-inch one, the sources said. Global shipments of the AMOLED iPhone in 2017 are estimated at 60-70 million units, the sources noted.
Why Apple Chose Samsung for OLED Panels
The decision for Apple to partner with Samsung for OLED panels is significant for several reasons. Samsung is a leader in OLED technology, known for its high-quality displays that offer vibrant colors, deep blacks, and energy efficiency. By choosing Samsung, Apple ensures that its new iPhone models will have top-of-the-line screens that can compete with other high-end smartphones on the market.
Moreover, Samsung’s ability to supply up to 20 million units per month ensures that Apple can meet the high demand for its new iPhones. This partnership also highlights the interdependence between two of the biggest competitors in the smartphone industry. Despite their rivalry, both companies recognize the mutual benefits of such collaborations.
What to Expect from the 2017 iPhone Models
The 2017 iPhone lineup is expected to bring several exciting features and improvements. The 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models will continue to use TFT-LCD panels, which are known for their reliability and cost-effectiveness. However, the 5.8-inch model will stand out with its AMOLED display, offering superior image quality and energy efficiency.
In addition to the new display technology, rumors suggest that the 2017 iPhones may feature a new design, possibly with a glass back and a stainless steel frame. This would mark a departure from the aluminum bodies used in recent models. The new design could also include a more seamless integration of the display with the body, potentially eliminating the home button in favor of a virtual button embedded in the screen.
Other expected features include improved cameras, faster processors, and enhanced battery life. The new iPhones may also support wireless charging, a feature that has been long anticipated by Apple fans.
Apple is expected to launch their new 2017 iPhone models in September of next year. As soon as we get more details about the devices, we will let you guys know.
