Samsung’s latest flagship mobile processor is their Exynos 9820. This processor is expected to be used in some versions of next year’s Samsung Galaxy S10 handsets, while other versions will utilize the Snapdragon 855 from Qualcomm.
Samsung has now shared more details about their new Exynos 9820 processor and released a promo video which you can see below.
Built to maximize intelligence on the go, the Exynos 9 Series 9820 is Samsung’s most innovative mobile processor to date. Featuring advanced artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, a powerful custom CPU and more, the processor expands the possibilities of mobile devices and provides the blueprint for future smartphones.
Advanced AI Capabilities
The Exynos 9820 is designed with advanced AI capabilities that set it apart from its predecessors. It features a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that enhances AI-related tasks, such as image recognition, language processing, and augmented reality applications. This NPU allows the processor to perform AI computations up to seven times faster than the previous generation, making it highly efficient for on-device AI tasks. For example, the AI can optimize camera settings in real-time to capture the best possible photos, or it can enhance security features like facial recognition and biometric authentication.
Powerful Custom CPU
Another standout feature of the Exynos 9820 is its powerful custom CPU. The processor includes an octa-core CPU configuration with two custom cores for high performance, two Cortex-A75 cores for optimal performance, and four Cortex-A55 cores for efficiency. This combination ensures that the processor can handle a wide range of tasks, from intensive gaming and multitasking to everyday activities like browsing and streaming. The custom CPU cores are designed to deliver a 20% improvement in single-core performance and a 40% increase in power efficiency compared to the previous generation.
In addition to its CPU and AI capabilities, the Exynos 9820 also boasts an advanced GPU. The Mali-G76 MP12 GPU provides a significant boost in graphics performance, making it ideal for gaming and other graphics-intensive applications. This GPU offers a 40% improvement in performance and a 35% increase in power efficiency, ensuring smooth and immersive experiences for users.
Enhanced Connectivity and Multimedia
The Exynos 9820 is equipped with a 4G LTE-Advanced Pro modem that supports download speeds of up to 2Gbps. This ensures fast and reliable connectivity, allowing users to stream high-quality content, download large files, and enjoy seamless online experiences. The processor also supports the latest Wi-Fi standards, including Wi-Fi 6, for improved wireless performance.
On the multimedia front, the Exynos 9820 supports 8K video recording at 30 frames per second and 4K video recording at 150 frames per second. This makes it possible to capture stunningly detailed videos with smooth motion. The processor also includes advanced image signal processing (ISP) capabilities, which enhance the quality of photos and videos by reducing noise, improving color accuracy, and enabling advanced features like multi-frame image processing.
We are expecting to see the new Samsung Exynos 9820 debut in next year’s Galaxy S10 handsets, which will be announced at MWC 2019 in February. The combination of advanced AI capabilities, a powerful custom CPU, and enhanced connectivity and multimedia features make the Exynos 9820 a significant step forward in mobile processor technology.
