More bad news for RIM this morning, as the company has been ordered to pay a total of $147 million in a patent dispute with Mformation technologies, over apparent patent infringements relating to RIM’s BlackBerry Enterprise Server software.
RIM has been ordered by a court to pay Mformation $8 for each unit of its BlackBerry Enterprise Server software that it has sold, and RIM has sold a total of 18.4 million units.
This means that RIM now has to pay Mformation a total of $147.2 million and also $8 for any future versions of the software sold, not really the best new for RIM considering all their recent difficulties.
