Teamlab has unveiled a new style of clothing rail which has just debuted by Vanquish in one of their men’s stores in Tokyo. This innovative system incorporates RFID tags into the hangers to create an interactive shopping experience. The hangers look the same as a normal hanger but with a larger head section which contains an embedded RFID chip.
How RFID Hangers Enhance the Shopping Experience
The RFID hangers are then positioned below a row of LCD monitors. As a garment is picked up by a customer, the monitor will display additional images, movies, and product information related to the clothing being viewed by the customer. This interactive element not only makes the shopping experience more engaging but also provides customers with a wealth of information at their fingertips. For instance, if a customer picks up a jacket, the screen might show different ways to style it, available sizes, fabric details, and even customer reviews.
If the customer replaces the clothing, the LCD screen clears until another garment is selected and removed from the rail. This seamless interaction ensures that the information is always relevant to the item being considered, enhancing the decision-making process for the shopper.
Benefits for Retailers
The RFID hangers not only provide customers with data but also offer significant advantages for the store. They provide valuable stock information together with stat tracking details on which items have been viewed whilst on the rails. This data can be incredibly useful for inventory management, helping store managers understand which items are popular and which are not attracting attention. For example, if a particular shirt is frequently picked up but rarely purchased, it might indicate that the item is appealing but perhaps priced too high or lacking in some other aspect.
Moreover, the system can help in loss prevention. Since each hanger is equipped with an RFID chip, it becomes easier to track the movement of items within the store, reducing the chances of theft. Additionally, the data collected can be used to optimize store layout and product placement, ensuring that high-interest items are prominently displayed.
Another potential benefit is the reduction in the need for sales clerks to provide basic information about products. With the RFID system, customers can independently access detailed information, freeing up staff to focus on more personalized customer service. This can lead to a more efficient and pleasant shopping experience for both customers and employees.
The introduction of RFID hangers by Teamlab and Vanquish represents a significant step forward in retail technology. By enhancing the shopping experience with interactive elements and providing valuable data to retailers, this system has the potential to revolutionize the way we shop for clothes. As technology continues to evolve, we can expect to see even more innovative solutions that bridge the gap between physical and digital retail experiences.
