Renault, Nissan, and Daimler all have an agreement in place that allows the three firms to share technology freely. This agreement has started a new rumor that claims Renault’s Alpine division might get Mercedes-AMG power under the hood. We won’t know for sure unit the Alpine brand gets revived when the Alpine vision concept debuts later this year.
If accurate, a Mercedes-AMD engine could find its way under the Alpine Vision’s hood, and what glorious bedfellows the two would make. “We have to reduce the diversity of the engines we will use [across Renaultsport and Alpine], which is not against Alpine having a lineup of high-power engines,” said Ancelin. “We have two solutions. Either we take one that is available in the Alliance and we fine tune it for more power. Or we can buy on the market. I heard in the presentation of the new DB11 from Aston Martin they are buying their V-8s from AMG. That is possible, too. We have some cooperation with Daimler. We can buy engines on the market – there is no problem to share that.”
That 3.0L AMG turbo V6 would be a good fit for larger Alpine cars. The Alpine Vision is a smaller sports car and is more likely to get a turbo four under the hood.
