An Australian company has rolled out a new sports car that is a minimalist design along the lines of the KTM X-Bow and Ariel Atom. The car is called the Quantum GP700 and the numbers in the name call out the power output of the little car. The rear engine ride uses a 2.7L four-cylinder with twin superchargers that produces 700hp and 482 lb-ft of torque.
That is a significant amount of horsepower, but when you consider that the GP700 tips the scales at only 1500 pounds you begin to get an idea of just how much performance this car will offer. That is a power to weight ratio of 1:1. The aerodynamic flaps and spoilers promise enough downforce to corner at up to 2.5Gs in the right circumstances.
The car also claims to brake with 2Gs of force. If you can get the car up to 174mph, the aerodynamics produce enough downforce to let the car drive upside down. The power and torque from the engine is put to the ground via a Holinger sequential gearbox like racecars and motorcycles use. Each of the cars will be built to owner specificaitons and offered in markets around the world.
