Figures have been revealed this week for Japan’s console game market which reveal that Sony’s new next generation PlayStation 4 console has failed to ignite the console market as Sony would have hoped and receive similar sale figures to that else where in the world.
Figures released by Dr. Serkan Toto a consultant and advisory on Japan’s gaming industry have shown that Japan’s console game market remained stable in first half of this year when compared to the first half of 2013.
The Sony PlayStation 4 console launched in Japan back in February and has yet to see sales figures like that of the UK, which saw the PlayStation 4 become the fastest-selling games console in UK history.
Since its launched the PS4 games console has sold 620,000 units in Japan and is struggling to woo gamers over to the new console. However Dr. Toto explains that the Japanese smartphone game market is expected to ‘grow handsomely’ over the next few years.
Japan’s console market in the first half of 2014:
Hardware sales: 706.3 million yen Software sales: 1016.3 million yen Total: 1722.6 million yen (US$1.685 billion)
Japan’s console market in the first half of 2013:
