At NAMM 2013 last week, a new style of portable DJ controller was unveiled in the form of the PDJ, which has been designed to provide all the features of a full-sized system in a portable dual touchscreen device.
The PDJ Portable Disc Jockey is equipped with a 16-beat step sequencer, 8-slot sampler, digital effects, auto loop, 3-band EQ, and can run for 12 hours on a single charge. Watch the video after the jump to see it in action.
Features and Capabilities
The PDJ Portable Disc Jockey is not just another gadget; it’s a comprehensive DJ system that fits in the palm of your hand. The 16-beat step sequencer allows DJs to create intricate rhythms and beats, while the 8-slot sampler provides ample space for storing and triggering samples on the fly. The digital effects suite includes reverb, delay, and filters, enabling DJs to add professional polish to their mixes.
One of the standout features of the PDJ is its auto loop function, which makes it easy to create seamless loops for continuous play. The 3-band EQ allows for precise control over the sound, ensuring that every mix sounds just right. Additionally, the device’s battery life is impressive, offering up to 12 hours of continuous use on a single charge, making it perfect for extended gigs or outdoor events.
Portability and Usability
The PDJ is designed with portability in mind. Its compact size and lightweight design make it easy to carry around, whether you’re heading to a club, a house party, or an outdoor event. Despite its small size, the PDJ doesn’t compromise on functionality. The dual touchscreen interface is intuitive and responsive, allowing DJs to easily navigate through their tracks and settings.
Another significant advantage of the PDJ is that it is a standalone device. This means that it doesn’t require a computer or any other external equipment to operate. DJs can simply load their music onto the PDJ and start mixing right away. This makes it an ideal solution for DJs who want a hassle-free setup and the freedom to perform anywhere.
Unfortunately, no information on pricing or worldwide availability has been released as yet, but it’s expected to launch for around $600 later in the year during the spring or summer. As soon as information comes to light, we will keep you updated as always.
“The portable DJ pad (PDJ), one of the smallest in the world, delivers CD quality sound anytime, anywhere. This mini sound machine will get everyone groovin‘ in the biggest dance halls! The DJ pad is a high-end standalone device that requires no other kit, e.g. you don’t need to connect it to a computer.”
The PDJ is poised to revolutionize the way DJs perform, offering a level of convenience and flexibility that traditional DJ setups can’t match. Whether you’re a professional DJ looking for a portable solution or a hobbyist wanting to take your mixing skills to the next level, the PDJ Portable Disc Jockey is worth considering.
