Ovie is a new smart connected food storage system that is capable of alerting you to when food is perishing and even connects to Amazon Alexa making it easy for you to keep track of what’s in your fridge and waste less food. Watch the demonstration video below to learn more about the Ovie Smarterware food storage system which is launched by Kickstarter this week to raise the required $40,000 needed to make the jump into production.
The Ovie system comes complete with its own smartphone application that sends you notifications when food may be perishing in your fridge and needs to be used before it becomes waste. An average family in the US waste roughly $2,000 worth of food or 40% of purchased produce according to the developers of Ovie. The system works by users simply pressing and attach smart sensor and recording what foods you store in the fridge. Alexa can help you add the details directly to your smartphone application making the process even easier.
“Between all of us we have over 30 years of experience working with manufacturers to produce products. We know first hand that delays and obstacles happen, but that first hand knowledge helps us to set realistic goals and overcome any challenges. We have to finalize our design, purchase tooling, debug the tooling and then mass produce. We also have to get proper testing and certification done since we’re using batteries, wireless communication, and making a product that will hold food. Our desire to ship product in February of 2019 reflects some expected delays in each of these areas because we know they will come up. We’ve seen too much.”
