Onyx BOOX Typewriter

A new E Ink 2 in 1 laptop has been unveiled this week in the form of the Onyx BOOX Typewriter laptop which is fitted with an E Ink screen providing users with a massive 25 day battery life or up to 50+ days battery life while in standby mode according to Onyx CEO Kim.

Watch the video below to learn more about its design and unique features when compared to other more traditional laptop designs equipped with LCD screens.

Other features include a 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor, 1GB of DDR3L memory, 16GB of storage, and a microSD card slot all running an operating system based on Google’s Android 4.0 mobile OS.

This E Ink screen is good to write texts outdoors, during the day in the sunlight, in the park, boat, balcony, beach, to get natural sunlight while doing work! Everybody who does work on computers today spend most of their time under artificial lighting (I don’t think that’s healthy, humans are not built for this..)

Of course the E Ink Laptop cannot replace your existing laptop for every task that requires a lot of things to move on the screen, this is why I hope that a smart UI and some smart Android apps are going to be provided. Onyx Typewriter runs Android on the NXP (soon Qualcomm) i.MX6 Solo Lite (I think) so a smart app/instance could potentially make this great.

Onyx 10.3″ BOOX Buddy from Onyx (scroll to 7:27 in this video) is one of the most amazing E Ink devices that I have even seen, amazingly light (350gr), thin (at only 7.2mm-7.5mm, depend on if there’s frontlight or not), the E Ink display is flexible! Flush with the bezels, has a digitizer annotations support and capacitive touch, extremely beautiful and check how quick the stylus input is, it feels nearly like writing with a pen on paper!
