Earlier this month we reported on the new Counter-Strike currently under development by Valve that will be ready for release sometime in 2012. Well today Valve has released a couple of official trailers showing what we can expect from the new game once it arrives.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) will expand upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched 12 years ago. The trailer also hints at cross-platform multiplayer gaming, but details on how this will actually work have yet to be released. Watch the trailers after the jump, including a little gameplay.
Enhanced Gameplay and Features
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive promises to bring a host of new features and enhancements to the beloved franchise. Players can look forward to new maps, characters, and weapons, as well as updated versions of classic CS content. The game will also introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leaderboards, and more. This will ensure that both new players and veterans of the series will find something to enjoy.
Once released, Counter-Strike players will be able to get a taste of their favorite game on the consoles as Valve is currently developing CS: GO for all three platforms: PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 at the same time, so we should be looking at a simultaneous launch as well. This marks a significant step for the franchise, as it will be the first time that Counter-Strike is available on multiple platforms simultaneously, potentially expanding its player base significantly.
Cross-Platform Multiplayer
One of the most exciting aspects hinted at in the trailers is the possibility of cross-platform multiplayer gaming. This means that players on different platforms could potentially compete against each other in the same matches. While details on how this will be implemented are still under wraps, the prospect of cross-platform play could revolutionize the way players interact and compete in the game. It could also lead to a more unified and diverse player community.
The trailers released by Valve provide a glimpse into the high-octane action and strategic gameplay that fans have come to love. The graphics appear to be significantly improved, with more detailed environments and character models. The sound design also seems to have been given a boost, with more immersive audio effects that enhance the overall gaming experience.
In conclusion, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is shaping up to be a worthy successor to the original game. With its expanded features, cross-platform capabilities, and simultaneous release on multiple platforms, it is poised to capture the hearts of both new and long-time fans. Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to the release date.
