Back in January of this year the highly anticipated Oculus Rift virtual reality headset was made available to pre-order, with a delivery date set for March 28th 2016, for those who were lucky enough to be able to pre-order early on.
As ordering continued in the following weeks the shipping date for the Oculus Rift was slowly pushed back into July 2016 and this week Oculus has announced that Rift shipping has now been pushed back even further into August 2016.
The slip in delivery dates could be for a number of reasons, as more recently Oculus announced issues with component shortages which have led to shipping dates to slip a little further. Although we are already in April and if pre-orders are continuing as they did earlier in the year then the extra month can be expected.
Extra preorders may also have been placed now that the HTC Vive virtual reality headset is available to purchase and started shipping to consumers earlier this month to mixed reviews. The Oculus Rift is available to purchase price to $599, while the HTC Vive is priced a little more expensively at $799.
Both the launch of the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive have not gone quite as smoothly as their parent companies would have hoped. With the HTC Vive experiencing issues with credit card orders which were mistakenly cancelled or not dispatched. Although at the current time this has not impacted on the back order shipping date. As soon as more details become available we will keep you updated as always.
