Sennheiser has unveiled a new addition to their range of premium headphones this week with the announcement of the launch of their new Sennheiser Orpheus that will be available to purchase priced at a whopping $55,000.
Although for that price you do get a separate headphone amplifier that is equipped with eight vacuum tubes that are freely suspended on top of a housing of sculpted Carrara marble.
Sennheiser explains that the new headphones they have created “combine the superior impulse processing of a tube amplifier with the low distortion of a transistor amplifier.” – “The decoupling of the tubes in combination with the damping properties of the marble has the effect of reducing structure-borne noise to an absolute minimum,”
The Sennheiser website writes more about the new Orpheus headphones :
In 1991 we created the best headphones in the world. We called them Orpheus. Now, we have done it again. The name and uncompromising philosophy remaining, this is Orpheus reborn.
