Apple is working on some new microLED displays for the Apple Watch and also future iPhones. This years iPhones will not come with these new display, although we may see a new smartwatch from Apple with a microLED display before the end of the year.
According to a recent report by Digitimes, Apple are planning to launch a new Apple Watch with a microLED in 2018. The company is also apparently planning to release some new iPhones with these new displays in 2019. Apple is said to be actually developing these new displays itself.
The rumor about the iPhones makes sense, Apple are rumored to bring a new design to next years iPhone X handsets and ditch the notch at the top of the display. This would be a good time for them to introduce these new microLED display with these new handsets.
We previously heard that Apple owns are 30 different patents for these new displays, if Apple does switch from OLED displays to these new displays then it could be bad news for Samsung. Apple is one of Samsung’s largest customers for smartphone displays.
